News Flash: (7/20/10) Save the Children has chosen a site for the school.

The school will be built in Kapoeta, Southern Sudan.

We have reached our goal!!!

I am very, very pleased to announce that due to the hundreds of students and adults who donated precious time and money, we have reached our goal of raising $100,000, and the construction of the school will be starting soon.  Please read about the reactions of some of the students involved and the CEO of Save the Children in the Danbury News Times story from December 28, 2008, and visit Save the Children's School in Sudan Project web pages to find out the details of the location and see photos of the construction of the school.  What an amazing journey!  I offer my most heartfelt thanks to all who worked with us and joined us in our effort.

If you made a significant donation of money or time, please visit the Plaque for the School web page to ensure that we recognize you according to your wishes.

Thank you!!!

Douglas J. D’Jay

Founder of the Cartus Save the Children Committee

On September 17, 2008 two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas D. Kristof wrote a beautiful column about our effort to build a School in Sudan in the New York Times (Thank you, sir.), followed by a story in the Danbury News Times on September 25, 2008 and a story in the Detroit Free Press on October 24, 2008, which starts with "From Detroit to Danbury to Darfur".

Of all the tragedies taking place beyond our borders, there is not a more desperate situation than that which has befallen the victims in Darfur. The United Nations in recent years called it “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.” If you have any doubt, please watch the eight minute award winning video “The Promise” created by the inspiring students of Danbury High School and Tim Salem, their Assistant Principal, which inspired us to become involved, and which has been shown all over the United States, including on Capital Hill in Washington.

The Cartus Save The Children Committee, the Danbury Connecticut High School Darfur Project students and the Farmington Michigan Darfur Project students set and reached a goal of raising enough money by 2010 so that Save the Children can build a school in Sudan for the Darfur refugees. A school which will provide desperately needy children with a safe environment, latrines, clean water and most of all, a future.  See the FAQ / Details about Our School page for more information.

Visit the web pages about our School in Sudan Project on Save the Children's website.  While you are there you can make a secure online donation with your Credit Card.  We've met our goal for the school, but your additional donations will enable Save the Children to help the school's community with other critical programs.
